Skullcap

Wildflower

Radnor Reflections, June 9, 2011

I saw this one small plant along Otter Creek Road tucked in among other, bigger plants. It was the only one, and I’ve never seen it before. The flowers look like miniature snapdragon blossoms. It is one of a number of wildflowers named skullcap, belonging to the mint family.  I can’t tell which one it is, but it is not Mad-Dog Skullcap, or Falseteeth Skullcap.  It might be Hairy Skullcap. You start to wonder what this sweet little flower did to deserve such names.
