We’ve been hearing angry squawking from the heron recently, and seeing them fly around with great wings flapping. Territorial disputes, probably. This one was on alert for the next unsuspecting fish, which I’ve read will be swallowed whole. A heron will also eat other small water creatures and rodents. It’s bad enough thinking of a live fish flopping around in its stomach, but how about a snapping turtle? That’s indigestion of a serious nature. Let’s hope the journey from beak to stomach subdues his dinner along the way. It wouldn’t be so pleasant to be the turtle, either, come to think about it!
