I love to look through the plant identification book for flowers that may be found, unequivocally! This is a yellow trout lily, Erythronium americanum. Sometimes, I even have to resort to the book whose pictures of flowers are all in black and white. I can’t imagine who thought that was a good idea. Anyway, yellow trout lily. That’s the Radnor flower for today.
Okaaaay, yellow, I get; lily, I get but….trout? Has it gills?
Lovely little lily and a nice shot of it; easy to see the flower parts and structure.
A late Congratulations on your new blog!
Cheers!
Speckled leaves, like a trout’s markings, or so the book said. Seems like a stretch to me.
Your picture of this trout lily is spectacular! It is inspiring me to sketch it in my diary. I just bought my first home last year in June and this year I was surprised to see the yard spread by a large, large patch of these mottled “trout” leaves. But anyways, you have a lovely picture of a trout lily.
I also like to think of the flower appearing around the start of trout season. Cool picture!
It’s nice when new reasons for enjoyment can be found in a photograph. 🙂
